Our meeting last Monday was quite different from the usual set up – we decided to have an EVALUATION SPECIAL in order to give all our “newcomers” some tips and feedback of what to look out for as an evaluator.
In order to achieve this, we planned on evaluating a speech together as a group. Our collected feedback would give everybody more insight in what we should strive for in our speeches.
Which speech to choose? We wouldn’t make it too easy, so we decided on watching a speech that was given at a past International Toastmasters Convention in Toronto.
Martina Dismond – our star evaluator – led us through this segment.
It was very enlightening that even a speech from this level (it placed 3rd in 2005) can be improved and everybody learned and had fun.
After all, giving effective feedback – in an encouraging and motivating manner – is one of the important skills to have in life.
There will be other special meetings coming up in the new year. Our President, Alexandra, is currently planning a Table Topics Special where you will learn to “think on your feet”.
